Bannerman in Action
a day of doin' good in the hood
History
In 2019, Bannerman in Action was conceived in an attempt to bring neighbours together by introducing those who needed some assistance with a 2-3 hour task with neighbours who wanted to lend a helping hand. The event was such a success - identifying 21 neighbours who wanted to meet those in their community who has specific skills and talent, and then recruiting a whopping 80 volunteers who thrive on community spirit.
Get Involved
On May 23, 2020, Bannerman neighbours will celebrate what it means to be a part of a community that cares for our second annual Bannerman in Action.
In response to the risk of Covid-19, we are re-strategizing our approach this year and will be celebrating ways in which the community has contributed to lifting each other up over the months leading up to May 23, 2020.
This year, we are introducing a “sustainable neighbourhood” project. Volunteers will build vegetable garden boxes that can be delivered to people living in Bannerman to put on their balconies, front deck or front yards. Thank you for the overwhelming response - all garden boxes have been claimed.
Another way to help show the resiliency of our community is to contribute to our Tile Mural Project. Each household in Bannerman will be receiving one tile in their mailbox to decorate in any creative manner they wish. The theme of your design will be Hope and Resiliency and demonstrate how you care about the neighbourhood you live in, or how others have cared for you. All tiles can be delivered to the community hall at 14034-23 St on May 23, 2020 from 9am-12pm and will be configured into a Mural of Hope that will show how connected all of us in Bannerman are. You can look forward to seeing your contribution to the design at future events!
THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE MAKING THESE INITIATIVES RUN SMOOTHLY
